hi there.. could you please help. this laptop seems slow.. the hjlog i posted on 31 jan seems to have increased. why does dwm.exe take up so much processing power. superantispyware you recommended on my desktop takes up at least 5 hours to complete on this. the norton seems useless also.. and i get these when i check my sons activity on windows care system ...

dwm.exe is a Desktop Window Manager from Microsoft Corporation belonging to Microsoft® Windows® Operating System. dwm.exe is the Desktop Window Manager and is responsible for the graphical effects in Microsoft Windows Vista operating system such as 3D effects, live windows previews and windows transparencies. I don't see any malware, the ad entries you are seeing are probably cookies.

Do you have Spybot-S&D installed? If so open it and run the Immunization feature.

ok.. thats done. i have windows defender. norton 360 . mbam. spybot. superanti. seems like overkill..

also the spybot updater is not so straight forward for me.

Windows defender. norton 360 are the only things that are running in real time. The others are on-demand and good to run occasionally to be sure nothing has crept in.

What about the updates in Spybot isn't straight forward?

there are two update options which seem to lead different ways.. one in left pane leads you to "display beta options" etc. the other in the right pane leads you to "select a download place to download from".. .. thats where i am confused..

Just highlight a location and then click download. If you get a Bad Checksum error go back and choose a different download from mirror/location.

After the update is done on the left click Immunize, once the list is done filling up look in the upper left again for the green plus sign with Immunize next to it and click that to apply any new Immunizations.
