My friend has bought an ipod and wants to download itunes so that she can download music on to her ipod. When she clicks on the download her computer gives a warning
this " type of file can harm your computer". I have ituns on my computer and never had a problem. Is this a general warning. She has Windows Vista. Is it safe to download?

Is she downloading it from the official website? That would be OK.

yes I would hope so, but will get her to check. So if it is the official website then that should be fine?

Yes. Probably just an over protective Vista warning.
