I'm on Windows XP Home and my Windows Security Centre tells me that "At least one of the firewalls installed on this computer is currently ON." and "Windows found more than one antivirus program on this computer and at least one reports that it is currently up to date and virus scanning is on."

I've already found that I have both the Windows and a McAfee Firewall running, so I've switched off the McAfee version. Silly question I know, but does anyone know how I can find out exactly what, or indeed how many, Firewalls and Anti-virus my laptop is running?

    Many thanks.

    Look in add/remove programs.

The Windows firewall is usually turned off when another firewall is installed to ensure you aren't running two.

Well first of all try Ctrl+Alt + Delete and check processes, Or go to Start> Run> type msconfig> Services , But if you want a more detailed list of running processes then there are programs you can download to list them in plain English.

    Thanks.

Have checked Add/Remove programs and there is nothing else to uninstall. Also checked Services at MSCONFIG.

However, when I ensured both my Windows and McAfee firewalls are turned off - I don't run both concurrently - Windows Security Centre (WSC) tells me that "Zonealarm" is working as the Firewall. Also, when I disable McAfee AntiVirus, WSC shows me that "AVG 7.5.446" is protecting my computer!

Although I have probably had both of these installed a long time ago I have since uninstalled them, again a good while ago. Clearly I would like to remove them properly - as they may be affecting me succesfully intalling a Creative Zen I have just bought - although I cannot find either program in the Add/Remove programs facility in order to do this. I am presuming there are cleverer ways of removing such programs and would be most grateful for advice on what to do next.

    Many thanks.

You can use Download Registry Search to look for old registry keys.
