I've been wondering what it does by changing the name of HJT to sniper
Certain variations of Vundo can "hide" from the hijackthis.exe when it runs so renaming it gives us a better chance to see it if it's there.

I like using StartUp 1.3 for my startup manager. It's very small (103 KB) and doesn't actually install. It removes the registry entry instead of just blocking the items from starting up.

Right click whatever you don't want running at startup and then choose Remove.

Ok, well the programs that WinPatrol says are going to start at start up are the ones in the screen shot below, could you tell me which I definatly need to keep, and which ones I don't, and what they are if it's not obvious?

Thanks

In WinPatrol uncheck Secret Startup locations to help narrow down the list of non Microsoft and non essential startups.

These are not needed.
  • StartCCC
  • Sony Ericsson PC Suite
  • LCDMon.exe <- See HERE
  • LGDCore.exe <- See HERE
  • Sun Java Update Scheduler
  • SUPERAntiSpyware <- Unless it's a paid version
  • CTFMON.exe <- See HERE on how to remove it.
  • HotSync Manager
  • Google Update <- Google Chrome won't work right with this disabled but if you don't use Chrome then it's fine to remove.

Isn't the CCC needed for the Duel monitors to operate properly?
The LCDMon.exe and LGDCore.exe I think I want to keep, as they are programs that run the extras on the G15 (control the LCD and the macro buttons etc). The same goes for the Hotsync manager and Sony Ericsson PC suite, as I quite often syncronise my Phone and PDA with my PC, so I require those.
Apart from that, I think the rest are removed.

Thanks EF

The resources all of those use is probably minimal so I don't think fixing them would do much anyway.
