hi guys. my problem is that i have window type windows popping up all over the place. if i am in email or on the net it shuts me down. i had this problem before and for a number of reasons bought a new computer. the only thing on it is xp and a cd?dvd burning program. the computer was only 3 days old as soon as i set up my email an email came in from myself and the same problems i had with the old computer started up again to the extent that i switched on the computer and it just went to a black blank page, i couldnt even go to safe mode. i reformated the hard drive set up the email and same thing happened again but it hasnt escalated to the extent that i had before as yet. i went to web mail and deleted everything in there so hopefully this will not occur again but the i still have the virus problem and unless i. my virus protection is trend micro 2008 which i am not very happy with at the moment.

please help if you can.
thank you in advance

Lets see if we can see what is going on.

Download and rename HijackThis (HJT)
  • Double-click on HJTInstall.
  • Click on the Install button.
  • It will automatically place HJT in C:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe.
  • Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
    • Close HijackThis and rename it.
    • Go to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.exe
    • Right click on HijackThis.exe and select Rename.
    • Type in sniper.exe and press Enter.
    • Right-click on sniper.exe and select Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)
  • From the desktop open HiackThis.
  • If using Windows Vista, be sure to Run As Administrator
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button
  • HijackThis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
  • Copy and then paste the log in your post.
    • Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
Even though we have renamed HijackThis to sniper, we will still refer to it as HijackThis or HJT.

thank you evilfantasy, i wish i had have found your site sooner. My computer basically crashed last night. the same thing happened as had before, it froze, then on rebooting ended up in a loop where i could'nt go anywhere, after the first screen came up it just went to a black screen. i wasnt even able to start in safe mode. So again i reformated. i have changed my virus protection to Kaspersky with a 30 day trial period. i will be sure to put this site in favorites for future reference.
So thank you again for your time and prompt reply.

thank you so much for the tips. i have downloaded a few of the suggested programs and did a few tests and i honestly feel much safer now.
i wanted to use my old computer for my stepson, maybe i should plug it in and get you to have a look at it as the virus is still in that one and i would really like to know what it was as it seems to be a nasty one. what do you think? the other option is to re-format that one too but then i will loose all of my photo's etc.
ok thanks again

Post a Hijackthis log from the other computer and I will check it out.

It is definitely worth having a look.
