Ok, firstly, this is my first post so I hope I don't get it wrong.

Now, I've had this laptop for 3 months and the Norton free subscription thing ended yesterday. I was told Norton eats up a chunk of memory and stuff so I want to remove it. I read through the "Keeping yourself safe on the web" thread but I'm really not sure what to choose.

This Laptop is used for online gaming (MMORPGs) and Homework only really, as well as watching DVDs and such. I use Mozilla Firefox over Internet Explorer. I need help choosing a good firewall, Antivirus, and anything else that would be good. I would like it to not take up too much memory and preferably free (but if there's one that is really good and not free then I'd like to know to weigh in my decision)

A Friend told me of Kaspersky and ZoneAlarm, and I was considering those.

Also, I torrent things quite a bit, so anything to help keep that safe but maintain a good down/up speed would be great!

Thankyou for any help, sorry if I messed up this post.

Oh, my apologies. I'd remove the mention but I can't find an edit button on my post after looking for a while.

I'll look in to the Super AntiSpyware Pro, would it be good to have that AND Kasperski or should I only have one?

I wrote a list down of the things I was thinking about. Kaspersky, Spybot Search and Destroy and Zone Alarm, is that a good combination or not?

Whatever you choose, make sure you remove Norton by using the Removal Tool, before trying to install anything else, otherwise you are likely to hit major slow down/stability issues.
Removing Norton in the conventional way will not get rid odf all the junk.

Ok! Thanks for that, I was just going to do the "Programs and Features" way.

I've downloaded CCleaner and am in the middle of downloading Spybot S&D.

Since I can't afford to buy an Antivirus, should I go with AVG, Avast or Avira AntiVir? I prefer the look of Avira but I'm not sure if that's the best, or is there another better Free Antivirus? Also, reading around this forum a bit, I saw some people said Comodo was a good firewall, so which would be best, Comodo or Zone Alarm?

Use all of these and you will have a good set up. Also install another on-demand scanner such as Ad-aware or SuperAntispyware.

Comodo Firewall Pro
avast! Home Edition
Comodo BOClean Anti-Malware
SpywareBlaster
