Default New tabs opening themselves on IE7

While on IE7, new tabs kept opening themselves and connecting to an page advising me to get some spyware software as my computer was infected. I assumed that this was spyware so I did a scan with adaware, ccleaner and spyware blaster. When I did this, the new tabs were still opening themselves but now they just show a blank page and the tab says 'connecting.....' and never goes anywhere. It happens every couple of minutes and its driving me crazy. I did a scan with hijackthis as most people with problems of this nature have been asked to do this. I have attached the logfile. If anyone can help I will be eternally grateful.

Whenever something deals in IE its usually a browser helper object, try going through IE's addons to see whats present and start disabiling TOOLS/Manage addons
your log these are probably bad
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [juthflwihq] c:\users\loz\appdata\local\juthflwihq.exe juthflwihq
I HIGHLY suggest deleting those 2

Default New tabs opening themselves on IE7

Open HijackThis and select Do a system scan only then place a check mark next to:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Close all windows except for HijackThis and click Fix checked

----------

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log in your next reply.

Note: process.exe ( which is used by SmitFraudFIx ) is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Next post please add:

smitfraud isn't working. It just keeps telling me access is denied. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Sorry for such a late reply. Been switching broadband due to many problems with the former supplier. Anyhoo, I have done all the things in the Malware removal guide, but I did have a few probs with the Java bit cos I didn't understand it. Here are my logs for your perusal. Hope you can find a solution for me. Thank you!

Curly

Default New tabs opening themselves on IE7

I don't see any malware but there is something to fix.

Open Hijackthis and select Do a system scan only.

Place a check mark next to the following entries:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Important: Close all windows except for Hijackthis and then click Fix checked.

Exit Hijackthis.

----------

Do you know what this is? c:\users\loz\appdata\local\wdbepz.exe

----------

Go to www.java.com and download the new version of Java.

Then go to add/remove programs and uninstall any version of Java except for the Java 6 Update 4 which was just installed.

Can you tell me what exactly the computer is doing?

Default New tabs opening themselves on IE7

I don't know what the thing on my c drive is.

I installed the new java but the website only gave me update 3. I must be doing something wrong.

My computer is exactly the same as before. New tabs just opening themselves on IE and they don't go anywhere.

Any more suggestions?

Curly

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
  • Post that log back here.
Be sure to restart the computer.
