Just purchased a new laptop running vista and it has norton's 30 day subscription warranty which i want to remove and it wont let me.

I have no info on my pc so a full re-installation is no problem.

Any ideas

Thanks

Hi megabyte,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team. Most likely the trial version of Norton that came with your system is just the stub installer, and Norton may not even be fully installed.

If by chance it actually installed and you would like to remove it, please download and run the Norton Removal Tool and follow the instructions carefully. You will want to run this tool, restart, run it again and then restart again, prior to installing any other antivirus or internet security suites.

Thank you,
Mike

Hi Mike thanks for the info---------I have nothing against your product i am sure it's as good as others but i now have 3 PC's for a specific purpose and i have bought Mcafee disc's for all so i am running the same system on all which will make things easy for me i hope.

I know there is a Removal Tool but this Laptop was an off the shelf model and comes loaded with loads of junk i would never use so i am wondering would it be just as easy to wipe the lot and do a drive format and re-install as i have'nt even connected it to the Net to update any features yet.

I normally wipe the HDD and start afresh, with any preinstalled system. This way you know exactly what is installed.

If you have the Vista Installation disk, go for it, but if you intend to put XP on, make sure that all the XP drivers are available on the manufacturer's website.

Check out the PC Decrapifier.

This is for new computers and all of the bloatware that comes on them. It works well, I've used it a few times.

I love the name evil ..... it's really descriptive and sums up what people think of all the bloat.

I see Sony now offer their Freshstart service ..... a new PC or Lappy with all the crap removed, that they put on in the first place ....... It's only $49.99 ..... PMSL
I can't believe their audacity

Ah yes, the freshstart program went over like a ton of bricks. I lost the link but I think they pulled it due to complaints. The thing is they offered it as sort of a rebate. You could have all of the bloatware on the computer and receive a $49.99 rebate, or have it all removed and pay the normal price for the computer. Brilliant!
