I'm a computer technichian. That's what I do for my daily job. My girlfirneds sister keeps uninstalling the antivirus I put on their computer and putting panda on it. I've seen panda on a few of my customers' computers but haven't used it too much. What do you guys think about it? is it crap or should I just let her keep it so she'll shut up?

Panda is very good. Although it seems to have gotten a little too aggressive recently (false positives, my opinion) but other than that you can have faith that it's doing it's job.
Personally unless you just like paying for tech support that, being a tech, you will likely never use then there is no reason not to install a free antivirus from one of the following, in no certain order. 1) Avast! Home Free Edition 2) AVG Free Edition 3) Avira AntiVir Personal Free antivirus offer just as much protection as a paid one. They use the same definitions and updates as the paid version. Here are two recent articles on the free vs. paid debates. Can you Trust Free Anti-Virus? Can you Trust Free Anti-Virus? (Part 2) And here are two reliable antivirus test sites. They are independant so bias is not in the equation. You will notice that Panda is not represented at AV-Comparatives. Thats because Panda won't allow their software to be included. http://www.av-comparatives.org/ http://www.av-test.org/index.php?menue=7&lang=0 |

Oh, and for a free firewall these are all very good.
In no certain order... 1) Comodo (Uncheck during installation "Install Comodo SafeSurf..", Make Comodo my default search provider" and "Make Comodo Search my homepage" and uncheck any Ask.com options if you choose this one) 2) Online Armor 3) Sunbelt/Kerio 4) Agnitum |
