I am considering loading this programme on my new computer. On my old computer I used Secretrmaker to delete old files. Does anyone have any comments on either of these programmes which will help me decide which to install or whether I should install neither.
thanks to anyone who can offer any advice or tell of their experiences.

Ian

Honestly I would not use anything from ParetLogic. I won't go into detail here but my advice is to stay away from their products.

Is it your surfing history that you want to hide or is it file management?

Thanks for the advice. I first used Secretmaker on my old computer when it started to slow down. The purpose was to remove any unecessary files including surfing history and I would like to install a useful programme on my new computer, preferably free. I don't know if Secretmaker is any good but the history currently shows in excess of 1 million files removed. If you can offer any additional advice, I would be grateful.

Thanks

As Cew suggested CCleaner is a great free tool.

Visit this post for more free tools Keeping Yourself Safe On The Web
Download CCleaner

It is suggested to download the CCleaner - Slim - No Toolbar which is the version without the Yahoo! Toolbar.
  • Double click on the ccsetup.exe file to start the installation of the program.
  • Select your language and click OK, then next.
  • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
  • Click next to use the default install location.
  • Under Install Options, choose all the default settings
  • Click Install then finish to complete installation.
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • On the Windows tab, under Internet Explorer, uncheck Cookies if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
  • If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for Cookies is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
  • Click on the Options icon at the left side of the window, then click on Advanced.
De-select Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours.
  • Caution: It is not recommended that you use the Registry feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
  • Click on the Cleaner icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
  • Exit CCleaner.

My advice be very careful, I installed this software on XP Home Edition and ran the program using only default settings and it shredded my entire music library. My music was stored in "My Documets under My Music" I used Windows Media Player and RealPlayer to play audio tracts. All GONE EVERY MUSIC FILE. Paretologic reply to this... won't happen, and denied it. Offered a refund, I am out all the time and money it took to build this music library, which I have been working on for 8 years. GONE...... Very Destructive software
