Default Persistent Error message - M3PLUGIN.DLL

Hi

There's an error message that's been popping up every time i boot up my PC for some time now. Although it hasn't really bothered me (i simply push 'OK' and it disappears), i think it's the reason why i'm having trouble burning stuff to DVD.

I'll describe the message. It's only a little window in the centre of the screen titled 'RUNDLL'. The actual message says:

"Error loading: C:\PROGRA~1\bar\1.bin\M3PLUGIN.DLL

The specified module could not be found."

and then it just lets me click 'OK'. Any idea what it is or how to fix it?

oh yeah, i have Windows XP Home Edition version 2002 service pack 2.

Thanks,
john

Default Persistent Error message - M3PLUGIN.DLL

I'm not sure if you want to keep this or not. If it is something you don't use I would uninstall it. No need having it take up space if it isn't used. AmpliTube 1.1 LE - http://www.sonomawireworks.com/guide...LE_for_Windows

Uninstall:
Ask Toolbar <- This is adware, should have been removed by the scanners but check to be sure.
IncrediMail Xe <- Includes adware, uninstall if you don't use Incredimail.

----------

Follow the updating Java instructions and then post the HijackThis log so we can continue on.

Default Persistent Error message - M3PLUGIN.DLL

OK, got rid of AmpliTube, but had trouble with the other two.

When i press 'Change/Remove' for 'Ask Toolbar', a message called "RUNDLL" says:

"Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\AskSBar\bar\1.bin\AskSBar.dll

The specified module could not be found."

And when i press 'Change/Remove' for 'IncrediMail Xe', a message called 'Wise Uninstall' says:

"Could not open INSTALL.LOG file."

Here is the Hijack This log:

Default Persistent Error message - M3PLUGIN.DLL

OK we will deal with the two programs that you couldn't uninstall but first I need you to run a new HijackThis scan. Only this time once the log comes up, before copying it, in the top of Notepad click Format and then click Word Wrap. Then copy and paste the results.

Default Persistent Error message - M3PLUGIN.DLL

This is sort of a long list but it's only a few things to do actually and it is necessary. Your PC will thank you.

Disable Spybot's TeaTimer

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes. Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean.

1. Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol). Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident
2. Run Spybot S&D
3. Go to the Mode menu, and make sure Advanced Mode is selected.
4. On the left hand side, choose Tools > Resident
uncheck Resident TeaTimer and OK any prompt and Restart your computer.

Note:
If TeaTimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.

If TeaTimer will not turn off then uninstall Spybot until we are done cleaning.

Leave TeaTimer off until we are completely done cleaning.

----------

Disable Windows Defender

We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
  • Open Windows Defender
  • Click on Tools, General Settings
  • Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended)
  • After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

----------

Uninstall spyware

Please uninstall this while we are cleaning. If you choose to put it back when we are done that is up to you but it will just cause problems for now.

Please go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall: (if there)
  • BearFlix
  • BearShare or BearShare MediaBar
----------

Most of this is adware/spyware but some are just unnecessary startups. The programs will not be effected you will just need to start them manually when you want to use them. Your PC will run better without them running all of the time also.

Open HijackThis and select Do a system scan only.

Place a check mark next to the following entries: (if there)
  • R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = http://search.bearshare.com/sidebar.html?src=ssb

Important: Close all windows except for HijackThis and then click Fix checked.

Exit HijackThis.

----------

Delete the AskSBar folder

C:\Program Files\AskSBar

----------

Note: the below instructions were created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, DO NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system

Go to Start > Run and type notepad.exe then click OK

Copy and paste the below into Notepad and save as fixme.reg to Your Desktop

Code:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\Run]
"ISUSPM Startup"=-
"ISUSScheduler"=-
"TkBellExe"=-
"QuickTime Task"=-
"AppleSyncNotifier"=-
"iTunesHelper"=-
"Adobe Reader Speed Launcher"=-
Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click it. Answer Yes when prompted to merge with the Registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it did not work.

Delete the fixme.reg from the Desktop.

----------

Download Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to the Desktop to remove Windows Messenger.

Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Unzip the file on the Desktop. Open the MessengerDisable.exe and choose the bottom box - Uninstall Windows Messenger and click Apply.

Exit out of MessengerDisable then delete the two files that were put on the Desktop.

Run CCleaner and the restart the computer. <- Important step.

----------

Download ComboFix© by sUBs from one of the below links. Be sure top save it to the Desktop.

Link #1
Link #2

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Close any open Web browsers. (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc) before starting ComboFix.

Temporarily disable your antivirus, and any antispyware real time protection before performing a scan. Click this link to see a list of security programs that should be disabled and how to disable them.

Note: TrendMicro is sometimes hard to turn off. If this is the case just run ComboFix anyway and allow any warnings TrendMicro gives you to run.

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

For Windows XP Systems install the Recovery Console:

- If you are using Windows XP and do not already have the Recovery Console installed, please ensure your Internet connection is active (if possible) and click Yes.
- If for some reason your Internet is not working click No.
- If you are not using Windows XP, you will not be prompted.
- When prompted to accept the EULA click OK.
- Accept Microsoft's EULA (Click Yes).
- When you are told that the RC is installed correctly click YES to continue scanning for malware.

When finished ComboFix will produce a log for you.
Post the ComboFix log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Important: Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Remember to re-enable your antivirus and antispyware protection when ComboFix is complete.

----------

Also let me know of any problems you are noticing with the computer now.

I probably won't get back to this until sometime tomorrow, it's getting late here. Don't worry, we'll get it finished up and hopefully your PC will be running like new!
