Please Help!! I noticed something was wrong with my PC earlier this week. Whenever I would run a search (in Google or another site) IE windows would pop up with ads sort of relevant to my search. BUT I use Firefox. I would also get Firefox windows.

When I would start my PC McAfee would alert me that it had removed Vundo!GRB 1 or two times. I ran a complete McAfee scan each time but nothing was found. I then ran Malware 2 or 3 times each time it found and removed Vundo Trojans but the problem kept coming back.

I have since followed steps 1-7 in the sticky post at top and desperately need help as this is the computer I am using to conduct my job search.

Thanks in advance!!!

Here are the three scans from SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebyte's Anti_Malware and HijackThis Log.

Welcome to CJ.

You have Viewpoint installed.

Viewpoint Media Player/Manager/Toolbar is considered as Foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad".

It is suggested to remove the program now.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
  • Viewpoint Toolbar
  • Viewpoint Experience Technology
----------

Scan Suspicious File(s)

Please go to VirusTotal.com
(If more than one file needs scanned they must be done separately and logs posted for each one)

1. Copy the file path in the below Code box:
Code:
C:\WINDOWS\V0380Mon.exe
2. At the upload site, click once inside the window next to Browse.
3. Press Ctrl+V on the keyboard (both at the same time) to paste the file path into the window.
4. Next click Send File
Your file will possibly be entered into a queue which normally takes less than a minute to clear.
This will perform a scan across multiple different virus scanning engines.
Important: Wait for all of the scanning engines to complete.
5. Copy and then Paste the link to the results in the next reply.

----------

Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open.
  • log.txt <will be maximized and info.txt <will be minimized
  • Please post the contents of both logs in the next reply.

I changed all the locations in the file where my last name was listed. I obviously trust you as I am listening to your advice and making those changes to my computer but wasnt sure if it was better to not include all of my personal/computer info on a public forum. If you need to know this info please let me know but that would explain all of the XXXXXXXs throughout.

Here is the log.txt

Do you have any idea what that file is? C:\WINDOWS\V0380Mon.exe

It's running from the WINDOWS folder so it is very suspicious.

Yes you are using your full name but in reality nobody knows what country you might really be in... And if you are changing things it might confuse me, I often go back and compare logs. Wouldn't want to accidentally delete something important.

Open HijackThis and select Do a system scan only.

Place a check mark next to the following entries: (if there)
  • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {2ce629cb-8089-4e7d-a439-5f3fb5f5bbf6} - (no file)
  • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6338f575-04ce-4e6c-9607-9eca80572673} - (no file)
  • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - (no file)
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u
  • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ravelemazi] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\dazisitu.dll",s
  • O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [ravelemazi] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\dazisitu.dll",s (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')
  • O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\Run: [ravelemazi] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\dazisitu.dll",s (User 'NETWORK SERVICE')
  • O18 - Protocol: bwfile-8876480 - {9462A756-7B47-47BC-8C80-C34B9B80B32B} - C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\GAPlugProtocol-8876480.dll
  • O20 - AppInit_DLLs: azvgpe.dll ioeqjw.dll qdmnal.dll
Important: Close all windows except for HijackThis and then click Fix checked.

Exit HijackThis.

----------

Go to Start > Run and type notepad.exe then click OK

Copy and paste the below into Notepad and save as fixme.reg to Your Desktop

Code:
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{2ce629cb-8089-4e7d-a439-5f3fb5f5bbf6}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{6338f575-04ce-4e6c-9607-9eca80572673}]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"ravelemazi"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
"AppInit_DLLS"=""
Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click it. Answer Yes when prompted to merge with the Registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it did not work.

Delete the fixme.reg from the Desktop.

----------

Download ComboFix© by sUBs from one of the below links. Be sure top save it to the Desktop.

Link #1
Link #2

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Close any open Web browsers. (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc) before starting ComboFix.

Temporarily disable your antivirus, and any antispyware real time protection before performing a scan. Click this link to see a list of security programs that should be disabled and how to disable them.

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished ComboFix will produce a log for you.
Post the ComboFix log in your next reply.

Important: Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Remember to re-enable your antivirus and antispyware protection when ComboFix is complete.

If you have problems with ComboFix usage, see How to use ComboFix

----------

Your Java is out of date.

Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to infect your system.

First install the new Sun Java Runtime Environment

Be sure to close all browser windows before beginning the install.

Remove the old version(s)

Download JavaRa
  • Unzip the file and open the JavaRa.exe
  • Click Remove Older Versions
  • JavaRa will search for and remove any outdated version of Java and remove any that are found.
  • Click Additional Tasks
  • Place a check next to Remove Useless JRE Files and click Go
  • Exit JavaRa
  • Delete the JavaRa files from the Desktop

Additional Note: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. To disable the JQS service if you don't want to use it, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and reboot your computer.

I ran the system scan and deleted the files using HikackThis and successfully changed my registry.

I tried downloading ComboFix and thats where I ran into problems. I tried from both sites but both times McAfee detected and quarantined a "Generic!Artemis" Trojan.

Let me know what to do next.

Thats funny about Java because I tried to install the newest version yesterday but did have a problem with the JavaRa.

THANKS!!!!!

Turn off McAfee and the try to download it.
  • Click Advanced Menu (bottom mid-left).
  • Click Configure (left).
  • Click Computer & Files (top left).
  • VirusScan can be disabled in the right-hand module and set when it should resume or you can do that manually later on.
Do the same via Internet & Network for Firewall Plus.
