I am trying my hand with online computer course to learn more about how things work. They are talking about rootkits and have 4 for you to pick from . But before I download anything I would like to know what they do .
The ones they named are as follows:
Malicious software remover tool from Microsoft, Rootkit hook analyzer, rootkitRevealer From Sysinternals, Blacklight from F-Secure
Dose anyone know if one is better then the other and how hard is it to learn to run.

Those are all tools that look for rootkits. Blacklight is good as well as GMER. The problem with rootkits isn't always finding them rather it's removing them once found.

Well the cours that I am taking asks you to install three different program . It is there way to make sure nothing is missed . They did not say anything about removing the problem once found. They just said the program would remove it.

What are they asking you to install? A rootkit or the software to remove it. Or both?

Don't install a rootkit unless you know what you are doing.

Unless you really know what you are doing I wouldn't install a rootkit. If that's what they are asking you to do it is very reckless and irresponsible.

Do you have a file the want you to install and can you send it to me?

Rootkits allow you to find the source of a virus on your computer I think. It might be able to show the one file that started everything. However, sometimes this might be a .dll file and you might be in trouble.
