I am trying my hand with online computer course to learn more about how things work. They are talking about rootkits and have 4 for you to pick from . But before I download anything I would like to know what they do .
The ones they named are as follows: Malicious software remover tool from Microsoft, Rootkit hook analyzer, rootkitRevealer From Sysinternals, Blacklight from F-Secure Dose anyone know if one is better then the other and how hard is it to learn to run.

Well the cours that I am taking asks you to install three different program . It is there way to make sure nothing is missed . They did not say anything about removing the problem once found. They just said the program would remove it.

What are they asking you to install? A rootkit or the software to remove it. Or both?
Don't install a rootkit unless you know what you are doing. |

Unless you really know what you are doing I wouldn't install a rootkit. If that's what they are asking you to do it is very reckless and irresponsible.
Do you have a file the want you to install and can you send it to me? |

Rootkits allow you to find the source of a virus on your computer I think. It might be able to show the one file that started everything. However, sometimes this might be a .dll file and you might be in trouble.
