Default Secure behind a router?

Hey,

How many of you believe that you don't need to run a software firewall if your using a router with a built in firewall?

I bought a new router just after Christmas, so i must of had it for about 3 weeks now. In the past 3 weeks my software firewall blocked intrusions count hasn't increased not even by 1. I'm now thinking about taking off the software firewall to free up some resources on my computer. But i only want to do this if i know my router is going to block all of the intrusions (99%).

Cheers

Rob

A router firewall is 99% of the time plenty of protection. They work different then software firewalls and are more "bulletproof". You can uninstall the software firewall and still keep the amount of protection at 99%.

Default Secure behind a router?

Yep .... I haven't used one for years now, safe behind my Router.

One point though, make sure the feature is enabled on in your Router's configuration settings, otherwise you may get some nasty surprises

I only run a hardware (router) firewall, if you are fairly savvy that is more than enough.

Default Secure behind a router?

I have a total of 4 firewalls, 2 are hardware.
  • Windows
    Outpost
    Nvidia (motherboard)
    Router

It is always best to have a software firewall because a router cannot manage your outgoing connections. A router only filters packets like a IDS server and figures out wether teh tarffic is suspoius and will only protect you from DOS attacks etc.

If i read correctly, you have two software firewalls. I believe this is a bad setup because the two will conflict against each other.

Very true, never run two software firewalls.
