| Hi Steve, Sorry to bother you again on this one but I have reinstalled XP and the computer seems much more responsive now. However given such action I was thinking is there any anti-virus software that you would recommend installing to try and limit future problems. I have downloaded the free avg 8.0 and thought about loading the other systems that are recommended before you post a thread on computerjuice? The reinstallation of XP went relatively smoothly and under the systems option the device manager shows that everything looks ok with the various drivers. However the only thing I have noticed different is the screen resolution and its different to the previous version and is much bigger. I have reduced the size in control panel, display, settings but its still not right. Will this likely to cause a problem as from looking on google it would appear that this type of problem results when the video card isn’t working correctly? Thanks for your help. Andy |

| Hi there The problem to me sounds like it is the graphics drivers for the video card, once the correct/updated drivers are in place then you will be able to adjust your screen resolution to the normal size for viewing. Regarding Antiviruses, I do find that a good alternative to AVG is Antivir, just remember to only have one resident antivirus running on your machine at any time, otherwise they will cause conflicts and slowdowns. Other Anti-Malware related software that is worthy of mention is Malwarebytes Antimalware, the free version is ideal for "run on demand" scans. You may also wish to use Spywareblaster to help prevent the installation of unwanted BHO's (Browser Helper Objects) Other noticeable software can be found in the Keeping Yourself Safe On The Web article here at Computer Juice Hope this helps!
