That's all of that part. Be sure to use the Secunia link and check out the links.

You might have to try a few of these suggestions from this page. <Link hidden. Register for free to see this link!>

Why can't I download updates?

Lift All Update Restrictions by downloading and running this <Link hidden. Register for free to see this link!>. For Permission issues read this <Link hidden. Register for free to see this link!>.

To get the updates to re-appear and/or to be listed as available again. Go to Start/Run/CMD and type in:
del /q "%SystemRoot%\System32\Catroot2\Edb.log. Then try again.

Can't download any updates and/or you receive an error message: Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 wintrust.dll. If that doesn't help: Go to Start/Run and type in CMD. At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each line:

net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2
net start cryptsvc

Or run this script, then try the install again.

<Link hidden. Register for free to see this link!> Another issue: When you use the Windows Update scan feature, the scan quickly reaches 100%, and then displays the "There are no updates available at this time" message. To correct this:

Verify that your computer's date and time are accurate and that the Internet Explorer language option is not empty.

To check the language setting in Internet Explorer:

1. Click "Tools" and then choose "Internet Options"
2. Click the "Languages" button
3. Make sure at least one language is listed in the "Language Options" dialog.

If the above hasn't helped: Go to Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Connections/Lan Settings and uncheck: Automatically detect settings.

Hi again guys. Back from my hols and still trying to sort this computer out. None of the things I've tried have enabled me to download and install windows updates. I'm trying to remember if I actually registered my new copy of windows when I did my upgrade. Could this have that kind of effect? If so, how do I get to the registration page? I also notice now that links in email and some other programs dont open when I click them. It does open a new page in OE but there is nothing to see, no text etc...The plot thickens..

Registration is optional but activation is mandatory. But if it isn't activated you won't even get to a login.

Your internet security settings may be too high. In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Security, Trusted sites, add the sites <Link hidden. Register for free to see this link!> and windowsupdate.microsoft.com and untick server verification, then try Windows Update

See if you can get the updates from M$' downloads area.

I tried that but when I try to download and install it goes thru the motions before saying these updates could not be installed, but doesnt give a reason. I've read all through the help files etc but nothing works..The part about links not working in OE is another problem. Maybe I should start a new thread?

I had this problem too after a repair installation, no updates would install. I found info on M$'s web site, think it involved cleaning out a folder in the Windows folder.

Have you followed <Link hidden. Register for free to see this link!>
