Default Smitfraud-C He does not want to die!!!

Okay.... tried Smitfraudfix.exe and Spybot etc but Mr Smitfraud-C is still hanging around like a musty smell and is getting on my nerves now as you could imagine! How do I know this as fact, well the desktop wallpaper changes to this rather icky blue with a 'warning' message splashed over it!

Anyway, I'm starting to ramble now so I'll shut up and leave any potential genius to look through the below Hijack This log.
Cheers.

Welcome to CJ.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM)
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to the following:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Old version of HJT

You are running an older version of HijackThis.

It is important that you uninstall any previous versions by using Add or Remove programs in your control panel before installing a newer version.

Download and rename TrendMicro HijackThis.exe (HJT)
  • Double-click on HJTInstall.
  • Click on the Install button.
  • It will automatically place HJT in C:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe.
  • Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
  • Close HijackThis and rename it.
  • Go to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.exe
  • Right click on HijackThis.exe and select Rename.
  • Type in sniper.exe and press Enter.
  • Right-click on sniper.exe and select Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)
  • From the desktop open HijackThis.
  • Important! If using Windows Vista, Right-click and Run As Administrator
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button
  • HijackThis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
  • Copy and then paste the entire contents of the log in your post.
  • Do not have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
Although we have renamed HijackThis to sniper, we will still refer to it as HijackThis or HJT.

----------

Next post add
  • MBAM log
  • New HijackThis log

Default Smitfraud-C He does not want to die!!!

Looks better but still some to deal with.

Disable Spybot's TeaTimer

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean.

1. Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol). Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident
2. Run Spybot S&D
3. Go to the Mode menu, and make sure Advanced Mode is selected.
4. On the left hand side, choose Tools > Resident
uncheck Resident TeaTimer and OK any prompt and Restart your computer.

Note:
If TeaTimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.

-----

Disable Windows Defender

We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
  • Open Windows Defender
  • Click on Tools, General Settings
  • Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended)
  • After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

----------

Open HijackThis and select Do a system scan only.

Place a check mark next to the following entries: (if there)
  • O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [SpybotDeletingA40] command /c del "C:\WINDOWS\system32\blphcp9lj0e73j.scr_old"
  • O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [SpybotDeletingC3101] cmd /c del "C:\WINDOWS\system32\blphcp9lj0e73j.scr_old"
  • O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [SpybotDeletingA8318] command /c del "C:\WINDOWS\system32\blphcp9lj0e73j.scr_old"
  • O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [SpybotDeletingC1467] cmd /c del "C:\WINDOWS\system32\blphcp9lj0e73j.scr_old"
  • O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [SpybotDeletingB5198] command /c del "C:\WINDOWS\system32\blphcp9lj0e73j.scr_old"
  • O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [SpybotDeletingD3038] cmd /c del "C:\WINDOWS\system32\blphcp9lj0e73j.scr_old"
Important: Close all windows except for HijackThis and then click Fix checked.

Exit HijackThis.

----------

Go to Start > Run and type notepad.exe then click OK

Copy the text in the Code box below and paste it into Notepad.

Code:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce]
"SpybotDeletingA40"=-
"SpybotDeletingC3101"=-
"SpybotDeletingA8318"=-
"SpybotDeletingC1467"=-
"SpybotDeletingB5198"=-
"SpybotDeletingD3038"=-
In Notepad go to File > Save as...

Next to File name: type fixme.reg Use the dropdown box next to Save as type: and select All files. Save it to the Desktop.

There should now be a file on the Desktop that looks like this

Double-click fixme.reg it and allow it to merge with the Registry.

You may not see anything happen but give it a few seconds or so to finish.

Now delete the fixme.reg file from the Desktop and restart the computer.

----------

Your Java is out of date.

Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to infect your system.

First install the new Sun Java Runtime Environment

Be sure to close all browser windows before beginning the install.

Remove the old version(s)
  • Go to add/remove programs and uninstall all old versions.
  • Be sure not to remove the new version that was just installed.
  • Download JavaRa.zip and unzip the file to your Desktop.
  • Open JavaRA.exe and choose Remove Older Versions
  • Once complete exit JavaRA and delete the program.
  • Run CCleaner.
Download CCleaner Slim and save it to your Desktop.
When the file has been saved, go to your Desktop and double-click on ccsetupxxx_slim.exe
Follow the prompts to install the program.
Complete the installation then:
  • Double-click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • Click on the Options block on the left, then choose Cookies.
    • Under Cookies to Delete, highlight any cookies you would like to retain permanently
    • Click the right arrow > to move them to the Cookies to Keep window.
  • Go into Options > Advanced uncheck Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours
  • Click Cleaner on the left then Run Cleaner on the right to run the program.
  • Important: Make sure that ALL browser windows are closed before selecting Run Cleaner
  • Caution: It is not recommended that you use the 'Registry' feature unless you are very familiar with the registry.
  • Exit CCleaner after it has completed its process.
----------

Scan Suspicious File(s)

Use the VirusTotal.com - Multi engine on-line virus scanner
(If more than one file needs scanned they must be done separately and logs posted for each one)
  • Copy the file path in the below Code box:
Code:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\msreplay2.dll
  • At the upload site, click once inside the window next to Browse.
  • Press Ctrl+V on the keyboard (both at the same time) to paste the file path into the window.
  • Next click Send File
    • Your file will possibly be entered into a queue which normally takes less than a minute to clear.
  • This will perform a scan across multiple different virus scanning engines.
  • Important: Wait for all of the scanning engines to complete.
  • Copy and then Paste the link to the results in the next reply.
How is everything now?

Default Smitfraud-C He does not want to die!!!

In answer to your question 'How is everything now?'

All would appear to be fine...

The HJT instructions couldn't be performed as the entries quoted were not listed.

Performed the regedit instructions with no problems.

Java has been removed/updated.

The file msreplay2.dll does not exist so no results to post!

All in all I'm sitting here with a stupid grin on my face but I think that might have something to do with it being Friday as well.

Are we done and if so take this virtual pat on the back for a job well done.

Default Smitfraud-C He does not want to die!!!

One final scan for a last check.

Run the Kaspersky Online Scanner

In Microsoft Windows Vista, you must open the Web browser using the Run as Administrator command. From the Desktop right click the icon and choose Run as Administrator.
  • Click on SCAN NOW
  • Click Accept.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded locate the Scan Settings and have it scan My Computer.
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it finish.

When the scan is done, in the Scan is complete window, any infection is displayed.
There is no option to clean/disinfect, however, we need to analyze the information on the report.

To obtain the report:
Click on: Save Report As
  • Next, in the Save as prompt, Save in area, select: Desktop.
  • In the File name area use KScan, or something similar.
  • In Save as type: click the drop arrow and select: Text file [*.txt]
  • Then, click: Save

Copy and paste the Kaspersky Online Scanner Report in your next reply.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.
