| I am beginning to think the problem is not malware related. We can do one more scan to be sure. Please read carefully. This will produce a log which you will need to post here. Run the BitDefender Online Scanner. Agree to the license and then select Scan. DO NOT CHANGE THE OPTIONS TO SHOW ALL FILES SCANNED. That will make your logs huge and we don't need to see clean files. Once Bitdefender completes the scan: Click-on the Detected Problems tab. Then select Click here to export the scan report. When the window comes up to save the report, change the Save as type: box to: Text (Tab Delimited) (*.txt) and then in the File name box enter change to bdscan then click Save. This will save a file named bdscan.txt. I would suggest saving it to the Desktop so you can easily find it. (take notice of where you save it so you can find it later). This bdcan.txt file will actually contain HTML code that we can easily view later while reviewing your log. All we have to do is rename the file to bdscan.html. If you do not follow these step, you will have an incorrect log or worse a log summary which is useless to us. Post the bdscan.txt file as an Attachment. | BitDefender found a few things but could not clean one of them. ===== Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. ATF Cleaner.exe This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program. Save it to your Desktop but do not use it yet. ===== Click > Start > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs and uninstall the following programs (if they exist): OneStepSearch ===== Enable Viewing Hidden/System Files and Folders Open My Computer. Select the View menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab then select Show all files in the Hidden files section. Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types. Click OK. ===== Enter Safe Mode 1. Restart your computer 2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8 3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear 4. Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter. 5. Login with your usual account 6. Once you have logged in, a warning message will appear regarding starting windows in Safe mode, click OK and windows will load your desktop environment. ===== Delete the following File, if it still exist. C:\Program Files\ OneStepSearch ===== Now run ATF Cleaner NOTE: ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first. * Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program. * Under Main choose: Select All * Click the Empty Selected button. If you use Firefox browser * Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All * Click the Empty Selected button. NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. If you use Opera browser * Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All * Click the Empty Selected button. NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program. ===== Rehide Hidden/System Files and Folders 1. Open My Computer. 2. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. 3. Select the View tab. 4. Under the Advanced settings box option select the following: 5. - Hide extensions for known file types 6. - Hide protected operating system files 7. - Do not show hidden files and folders . 8. | Hi,I don't know if you got the last message I sent, but if not I will do it again..The last set of instructions you gave me did not work..I still have the problem of sound but no video..As relative newcomer to PC'sI don't know if the following will be of any use, I went to Control Panel, then,System Properties, then,Hardware, then,Device Manager, which showed Video Controller & Video Controller(VGA compatible)..both with a yellow question mark above them..I'm sure I picked these up at the same time as Starware.. In the same section,I went to Details, then,Device ID,which are as follows: Video Controller:PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27A6&SUBSYS_FF011179&R EV_03\3&B1BFB68& Video Controller (VGA Compatible);PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27A2&SUBSYS_FF011179& REV_03\3&B1BFB68& I hope this helps..Ed.. |

Also try PC Pitstop for a free computer checkup and diagnostics that can help you detect and fix many common computer problems. You do not have to register, it will let you run the test as anonymous.

I apologise for my 'mate' Edz. ![]() It appears he's forgotten how to say "thank you for your help". So I'll say it on his behalf. ![]() We are both back out on the road again in the morning, so won't be back on-line until next weekend. I'll remind him when I see him in the yard. Simon.

This stuff can be frustrating. Sometimes courteousness is forgotten. No problems at all.

Please accept my apologies for not replying sooner..I've had a hectic few weeks..Home for 2 days, then back on the road on Sunday..I tried the uninstal, restart pc,but this has not solved the problem..I have also run a test on PC Pitstop & this shows that everything seems to be OK..I've also heard that there are programmes that can be downloaded to instal DVD controllers, but i am wary of this ,as it is possible that I un-knowingly downloaded something that caused the initial problem..What would you suggest my next step should be?
