Go to the entries with the yellow question marks and right click them and select uninstall.

Restart the computer and windows will reinstall them.

Also try PC Pitstop for a free computer checkup and diagnostics that can help you detect and fix many common computer problems.

You do not have to register, it will let you run the test as anonymous.

I apologise for my 'mate' Edz.

It appears he's forgotten how to say "thank you for your help". So I'll say it on his behalf.

We are both back out on the road again in the morning, so won't be back on-line until next weekend. I'll remind him when I see him in the yard.

Simon.

This stuff can be frustrating.

Sometimes courteousness is forgotten.

No problems at all.

Please accept my apologies for not replying sooner..I've had a hectic few weeks..Home for 2 days, then back on the road on Sunday..I tried the uninstal, restart pc,but this has not solved the problem..I have also run a test on PC Pitstop & this shows that everything seems to be OK..I've also heard that there are programmes that can be downloaded to instal DVD controllers, but i am wary of this ,as it is possible that I un-knowingly downloaded something that caused the initial problem..What would you suggest my next step should be?

No worries, I know time constraints can be a pain.

Try installing the K-Lite Codec Pack

You may be missing some video codecs and if so this will help.

Also, what media player do you use?

I have been using Real Player,InterVideo Win DVD & Windows Media Player, but these have not been working, from the time I inadvertently installed something I shouldn't have....I installed K-Lite Codec Pack as you suggested & I now have both sound & vision..I tried a few different DVD's and they are working ok..As a newcomer to P.C's I have been confused with the technical jargon, but, with your assistance,(and a kick in the pants from Simon!)I have been able to overcome the problem I had..Thank you for your help, time and patience..Ed.

Glad it is working!

I should have thought of the K-Lite much earlier so I have ran you through a few extra steps in sorting this out.

There are some free tools and suggestions in this thread to help tighten security. Keeping Yourself Safe On The Web

If you need anything else or are unsure on a program to download just pop in and ask. We can usually suggest safe, free versions of most everything.

Take care and be safe out on the road......
