Default Sygate Personal Firewall (Autorun Problem)

It is highly suggested to uninstall Bittorrent as these infections are likely a result of a torrent download.
Torrents/file sharing programs are very dangerous when used to download programs over the internet.

---------------

Download these tools but do not run them yet, they will be needed later.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. ATF Cleaner.exe

Download SDFix.exe and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

---------------

Enable Viewing Of Hidden System Files & Folders

1. Click Start.
2. Select Control Panel.
3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
4. Select the View Tab.
5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
6. Uncheck the Hide extensions for known file types option.
7. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
8. Click Apply.
9. Click OK.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading:
  • Select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Also, make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Click OK
---------------

In Internet Explorer

Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
In the Advanced tab, click Reset Web Settings.

---------------

Open HijackThis and select Do a system scan only then place a check mark next to:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Updater] C:\WINDOWS\system32\updater\explorer.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [{8C7223B3-0AFD-2057-0305-04070903002c}] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\{8C7223B3-0AFD-2057-0305-04070903002c}\Update.exe" te-110-12-0000073

Close all windows except for HijackThis and click Fix checked

Exit Hijackthis.

---------------

Print out these instructions or copy them into notepad and save it to your desktop. You will not be able to see this page from safe mode.

Restart your computer in safe mode
* If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
* Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
* Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
* Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
* Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
* Login on your usual account.

---------------

Double click My Computer on the desktop to locate and Delete these folders and files.

Once found right click on them and choose Delete.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\updater\explorer.exe

C:\Program Files\Common Files\{8C7223B3-0AFD-2057-0305-04070903002c}\Update.exe" te-110-12-0000073

===

Still in safe Mode run ATF Cleaner and then SDFix.

Make sure that all browser windows are closed.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All and UNCHECK Cookies.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All and UNCHECK Cookies.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All and UNCHECK Cookies.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

===
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard).
  • Finally add the contents of the Report.txt in your next post as an Attachment with a new HijackThis log

Default Sygate Personal Firewall (Autorun Problem)

Hi Again
I got as far as going into safe mode.
When I came to delete the two files I couldnot find C:\Program Files\Common Files\{8C7223B3-0AFD-2057-0305-04070903002c}\Update.exe" te-110-12-0000073
I enabled the viewing of files and folders.
I did not proceed any further until I have heard from you

I think you have cracked it, thank you very much.
I restarted the computer and I did not have that Autorun come up.
Thanks again.

Default Sygate Personal Firewall (Autorun Problem)

Good to hear.

Just a few more steps to secure the work you have done.

Let's clear out the programs we've been using to clean up your computer, they are not suitable for
general malware removal and could cause damage if launched accidentally.

Please download OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer OTMoveIt2.exe and place it on your desktop.

1. Double click OTMoveIt2.exe to launch it.
2. Click on the CleanUp! button.
3. OTMoveIt2 will download a list from the Internet, if your firewall or other defensive programs alerts you, allow it access.
4. Click YES at the next prompt (list downloaded, Do you want to begin cleanup process?)
  • When finished exit out of OTMoveIt2

This is a good time to clear your infected system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:
  • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
  • Select Create a restore point, and click Next.
  • Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
  • Select the More options tab
  • Next to System Restore click Clean up...
This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.

Check out this post for tips and free tools to keep you safe in the future.

If anything else comes up just let us know.
