Hi There
I just recently installed the following AV
AVG
Norton Internet Security 2008
Symantec Anti Virus v10.2.298
i know this is an overkill but im really afraid to have virus on my computer as my previous one had so many that im not able to use it

1. im not that computer literate and here's my question:
after i have installed the SAV and updating it a pop-up appears on the right side of the screen that this is disabled however looking at the sytem tray it is running. is there a problem with the SAV or is it corrupted? right now i just uninstalled it just to be sure that it will not affect my laptop. also when i try to scan an SD card or any external memory using the SAV there is an error message that it does not allow right clicking to scan (something like that)

i have searched google and i found no answer to my problem. they say that it is a corrupted virus database but if that is the case then my norton internet security should also be having a problem right?

2. when i checked Hijack this log there is a word there "wormradar" since i do not know how to read this, is this a virus? and how do i remove this?

Please help and Thank you in advance

Hello laurenwyne. Welcome to CJ.

You should only have one antivirus installed and running at a time. Using two will cause all sorts of problems.

wormradar is part of AVG antivirus.

It looks like you are running Symantec now but there is an AVG service running and needs to be fixed. Have you uninstalled completely AVG?

O23 - Service: AVG Free8 WatchDog (avg8wd) - AVG Technologies CZ, s.r.o. - C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgwdsvc.exe

Hi Evilfrantasy,

Thanks for the reply...and for the welcome
I see I cant have 2 AV installed in my laptop. So it's either I choose SAV, NIS or AVG free. Which is much better? Or are there any recommendations? Here in our office we are using SAV, however when I was having problems in my Outlook (it alwasys restarts), I scanned my pc with SAV and no virus was detected. However when I scanned using the AVG, it detected 4 Trojan horse BackDoor.Ircbot.EWS under C:\WINDOWS\systems\smss.exe which were moved to the virus vault. the other one C:\WINDOWS\systems\smss.exe (3824) ask my pc to be rebooted which i already did but still it appears in the virus vault but I think it is already removed from my pc.

Going back to my laptop, I have already removed the SAV, so that leaves my Norton Internet Security and AVG. So which do I remove NIS or AVG. I have 3 years subscription for NIS. With regards to the AVG, yup i have installed it however im not sure what is happening to the update manager, as I am having errors with it. As well as here in the office having problems with the AVG regarding the update manager.

I'd go with AVG, Norton is a horrible, bloated, not good at removing viruses, expensive, piece of rubbish.

Besides AVG are there other recommendation? Coz the NIS was included in the package, and from what i heard and understand that most virus are really meant not to be detected by Norton. Will there be a problem if AVG and NIS are running at the same time?

Avira AntiVir has been getting good reviews lately.

Remember to only install one antivirus!

1) Avast! Home Free Edition
2) AVG Free Edition
3) Avira AntiVir Personal
4) Comodo Antivirus
5) PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition

Free firewalls

1) Comodo (Uncheck during installation "Install Comodo SafeSurf..", Make Comodo my default search provider" and "Make Comodo Search my homepage" if you choose this one)
2) Online Armor
3) Sunbelt/Kerio
4) Agnitum
5) PC Tools Firewall Plus

Firewalls are the same as antivirus. Only one at a time.
