Default System slowdowns and slow internet

Your Java is out of date.

Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to infect your system.

First install the new Sun Java Runtime Environment

Be sure to close all browser windows before beginning the install.

Remove the old version(s)

Download JavaRa
  • Unzip the file and open the JavaRa.exe
  • Click Remove Older Versions
  • JavaRa will search for and remove any outdated version of Java and remove any that are found.
  • Click Additional Tasks
  • Place a check next to Remove Useless JRE Files and click Go
  • Exit JavaRa
  • Delete the JavaRa files from the Desktop
----------

Megaupload Toolbar: Megaupload Toolbar is a browser exploit. Collects information on browsing habits. Many red downloads according to SiteAdvisor. It is highly suggested to uninstall this and find something safer to use.

----------

We can remove a bunch of startup programs. Nothing will be effected, the programs are completely unnecessary and will just need to be started manually when you want to use them.

Open HijackThis and select Do a system scan only.

Place a check mark next to the following entries: (if there)
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] \"C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe\" -atboottime
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] \"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe\" -osboot
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTxfiHlp] CTXFIHLP.EXE
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] \"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe\"
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTHelper] CTHELPER.EXE
  • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [igndlm.exe] C:\Program Files\IGN\Download Manager\DLM.exe /windowsstart /startifwork
  • O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
  • O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe
  • O9 - Extra \'Tools\' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe
Important: Close all windows except for HijackThis and then click Fix checked.

Exit HijackThis.

----------

Note: the below instructions were created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, DO NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system

Go to Start > Run and type notepad.exe then click OK

Copy and paste the below into Notepad and save as fixme.reg to Your Desktop

Code:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\Run]
"UpdReg"=-
"QuickTime Task"=-
"TkBellExe"=-
"CTxfiHlp"=-
"iTunesHelper"=-
"CTHelper"-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"igndlm.exe"=-
Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click it. Answer Yes when prompted to merge with the Registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it did not work.

Delete the fixme.reg from the Desktop.

----------

Download Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to the Desktop to remove Windows Messenger.

Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Unzip the file on the Desktop. Open the MessengerDisable.exe and choose the bottom box - Uninstall Windows Messenger and click Apply.

Exit out of MessengerDisable then delete the two files that were put on the Desktop.

Run CCleaner and restart the computer.

----------

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM)
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to the following:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

----------

Let me know how everything is now.

Default System slowdowns and slow internet

That looks to have picked up a few rouge leftovers.

How is everything now?

I would also recommend that you Defrag the computer. There may be a lot of fragmented sections on the drive after all of cleaning you did.

Run CCleaner first and do as little as possible on the computer while defragging. I usually start a defrag when I am not going to be at the computer for a while. Running it in Safe Mode is the best way but it isn't a must.

You can use the built in Windows Defrag or a faster FREE program. Defraggler is very effective and easy to use. Be sure to clean out temp files and restart the computer just before using this.
