When you visit any website you drop your IP, which can only traced back as far as your ISP (So your rough location is easily visible). Only the police can then get further, more precise info from them.

What Dave said is true.

But, just because it's the Internet doesn't mean you can just do as you please. There are stalking/bullying laws in most countries and it doesn't take much to cross the legal line.

Be a bigger person and just walk away then you have nothing to worry about.

anyone can find your ISP online using a basic IP search on google like if 192.168.1.1 was a real IP then you can type it in google and find out the exact place that address is located but you can't get the address of the person that uses the IP. If your using a broadband card your using diffrent IPs and it will show up all over the country but all are logged including when that IP was used and by who. even if your using a proxy that IP will lead to the ISP of the provider and to that provider's records showing your IP to your ISP then to you. The internet in some ways more secure than the payphone around the corner.

Yeh it is easy to track someone's IP address and location. Nothing more though, I think....

I learnt this at college one day. I remember my teacher saying anyone can track your IP address along with your location. But they cannot find any more information than this.

Of course the police can do more as they have the authority to do so just be careful.

Not unless your ISP has a big mouth. even with a policy an ISP employee may blert out information. My isp did it once till I yelled at them for it.

My ISP is fantastic, and bends over backwards to make it's customers happy.

It's a matter of what ISP you chose, and if you are paying them peanuts a month, then you tend to get peanuts service. If you pay them a bit more and have a business orientated plan etc, they treat you very well.
