Default TROJAN HORSE

Hello,

I have a problem with a Trojan Horse.
Warning message is
'C:\windows\system32\crypt32n.dll TROJAN HORSE BHO.CVX

I have run AVG and this identifies the file moves it tom the vault but on re-boot it's there again.
I have tried deleting the file in windows that failed.
I tried renaming it in windows (with a view to deleting it) that failed.
I've tried to go back and re-set my PC but I cannot go back beyond the start of the month and I've had this since before Christmas.
My PC appears to be ok but I'm still concerned that I have a virus !

Is there anything I can do ?
Help much appreciated

regards

Ian A

Welcome to CJ.

Download and rename HijackThis (HJT)
  • Double-click on HJTInstall.
  • Click on the Install button.
  • It will automatically place HJT in C:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe.
  • Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
    • Close HijackThis and rename it.
    • Go to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.exe
    • Right click on HijackThis.exe and select Rename.
    • Type in sniper.exe and press Enter.
    • Right-click on sniper.exe and select Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)
  • From the desktop open Hiajckthis.
  • If using Windows Vista, Right-click and Run As Administrator.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button
  • Hijackthis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
  • Copy and then paste the entire contents of the log in your post.
    • Do not have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
Although we have renamed Hijackthis to sniper, we will still refer to it as Hijackthis or HJT.

Thats a startup list from HJT which is useful but I need the main scan.

Open HJT and select the Do a system scan and save a log file button.

Post that log please.

Hi,

Sorry if I seem slow in replying but I'm having difficulty in saving the scan !

I have been to HJT run 'Do a system scan and save a log file, but when it tries to open a log file it fails.

The only way I can see of providing this info is if I save a copy of the screen but to post that it will be a big file do you think this is a good idea or is ther something else I can try ?

Regards
Ian A

Try this instead and post the logs from it.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop.
Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open
    • main.txt <- this one will be maximized
    • extra.txt <- this one will be minimized
  • Add the contents of main.txt in your post.
  • Also add extra.txt to your post.
  • The text from these files may exceed the maximum post length for this forum, and may need to be sent over 2 or more posts. Please ensure all text is posted.

What DSS will do:
  • Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.
