Until February I had been writing a blog (for over a year). One day I found I was able to add a new entry without even signing in via my email address! I'm not very technical so although I was confused, I did not see this as a huge problem. A few days later I found out that someone had deliberately hacked into my email address, edited my blog and then decided to change and withhold my password. The person concerned was able to do this as that email address is backed up on to space on his work website. He has admitted doing this. I still haven't found a way of changing that password to something he doesn't know - so he is in theory able to read any private emails I receive and send via that email address?
When I clicked on the blog to add a new entry, a Kapersky dialogue box came up. I think it had a yellow frame and said something like "Warning: unauthorised transfer of data." There was a line of green dots that moved from left to right. It moved very, very quickly and then confirmed that the transfer was complete. I clicked away from the blog and then tried again. The same thing happened, though the second time I closed it down before the action was complete. Please advise me on this. I don't feel my laptop is secure - or my personal information. I don't know what sort of transfer might or might not have happened, but it's a worry for me. Is there any way I can check this out? |

I will say the host is Google. I couldn't find any web hosts with the other name you gave me.
I used to manage a blog on that site and recently moved all of my content to a free http://wordpress.com/ account. Wordpress is much more secure. You might consider making aa new account at WordPress.com and transferring everything over to it. I would also run a scan and post the log here so we can make sure there is nothing hiding on your computer. Scan with Panda ActiveScan 2.0 This scanner requires Internet Explorer
Post the contents of the ActiveScan report in your next reply. |

Okay, thanks. I will run that virus scan now and see what happens.
Also, on another point, the person who hacked into my email account said that it was a public blog and it was therefore not private property, whatever my opinion. He said that he had warned me not to write anything libellous. Actually what I wrote was true and events have since confirmed this. |

Save your emails from him and PROSECUTE his hacking butt.

Report him to Google or his ISP if you know who it is. You are free to post whatever you want on your blog as long as it is not against the law. You can not bypass a password by any means, even just guessing one, and it be OK.

Well, I'm not sure what is "against the law". If someone chooses to take offence and make an issue of it (even unfairly) it can still be a problem... Who would be able to judge whether my comments are libellous or not? I did not lie. I think that was the problem.
