Hi everyone! New to the site. I'm pretty well a beginner with computers and I hope to learn some things from forum contributers.
So my girlfriend just bought a new PC, an HP notebook to be exact. She has Norton 360 and scans her computer regularly. She shares her wireless network with 2 roommates who are reknown for clicking on sex tape adds and basically race each other to screwing up their computers the fastest. Can she get viruses over the wireless network? I ask because she sent everyone on her contacts list an advertisement email, yet when she scans her computer nothing in the way of viruses shows up? Does she have a viruses that is slipping through Nortons cracks? |

Run the scans in this topic and post the logs. We'll have a look.

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team. Yes, infections can travel over local networks and infect other machines. However, the Norton 360 Firewall contains options to secure the computer when configured correctly. The fact that your girlfriend's computer sent a bunch of messages out with an advertisement is an indication of an infection. The first step you can take is to make sure that Norton 360 version 3 has the latest updates applied to it. 1. Open Norton 360 and mouse-over the "PC Security" bubble and choose "Check for Updates". If any updates are installed, restart the computer and repeat the process until Norton 360 informs you that there are no more updates available. The next step is to boot the computer into Windows Safe Mode and then launch Norton 360 and a "Comprehensive Scan" will begin. Some infections can only be detected when you are in Safe Mode. After the scan has completed, let me know if you are notified of any infections, and if so, the name(s) of the infection(s) and if Norton 360 was able to remove or quarantine them. When this process is completed, I can then work with you to make sure that Norton 360 is configured properly to provide the highest level of protection for your girlfriend's computer.
