| heyya, now im in the middle of a strange computing experience which i can only blame on a virus/malware. anyway i notice it while watching videos/movies or playing video games, and if im using something CPU intensive. but every minute or so, my computer or any action im taking slows to a halt, for about 20 seconds, then comes back to normal. as you can imagine this is rather annoying. and sure enough there is a peak in CPU usage over these periods, however no extra ram is taken by anything (well, nothing abnormal) so i can only assume that whatever is happening is hidden from task manager (hence the virus assumption) this is a screenshot: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y97/johnchaz/untitled-6.jpg anyway ive since virus checked galore, upped my firewall, kinda gone into super defence mode, ive scanned my computer twice today with norton corperate edition ad aware and spybot search and destroy, ive found several dozen infections. norton infact threw up 212. but still after everythings been cleaned/ quarenteened and a secondary scan to make sure. it still continues. btw i did update everything pre scan, and all scans were done in safe mode. anyway any info, tips, advice, suggestions... anything really would be greatly appreciated as im at my wits end thanks D.R |

| Welcome to TCF. Norton Corporate Edition uses massive resources alone. For a home computer it is overkill. Lets start with this. Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu. This will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. please move them to a different directory first. Notes for Windows Vista users: On Windows Vista that "Windows Temp" is disabled, to empty "Windows Temp" ATF-Cleaner must be "Run as an Administrator" Prefetch has been disabled on Windows Vista. As I'm not sure the effects that emptying prefetch on Windows Vista will have for the time being it I won't enable that function. Next: Download HijackThis Here Once you have it downloaded install/save it to it's own folder!!! This is important for it to work properly. For example save in C:\program files\hijackthis You can then create a shortcut on the desktop. Once installed open the program and select Do a system scan and save logfile. **Important DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Save the log to your desktop. In the next post click Post Reply. Scroll down and click Manage Attachments and add the log as an attachment. I will have a look at the HijackThis log and see where to go from there. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. |
