Default Weird System Config Errors - Good Geek Challenge! X3

So, in a thread on a different site, I was trying to get rid of a runner error, and was given some advice to go into Run and edit the startup thing and un-click the Updates from HP option. I did that, and that solved that problem, but now I get this:

I've tried a bunch of different things, but I usually only make things worse. Here is what the startup thing looks like now:

and

Someone else suggested that it might be virus-related. I did find a trojan, but it was easily dealt with, but I'm still getting errors.

I know this is a lot, but it's really starting to slow down pretty much everything and is just giving me hell whenever I try to get something done. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go and change it to Normal Startup Mode.

Install StartUp Tool

Open the tool and right click anything you no longer want to run at startup then choose Remove.

Honestly, I have no idea. I'm really bad with computers, so I don't even know what most of that stuff means. x3 I had it on Normal before, and it was still doing it, but let me check out that tool and restart and see if that helps.

Thanks a lot for the advice, by the way. :) I appreciate it.

That entry doesn't look right. Lets take a closer look.
Download and rename HijackThis (HJT)
  • Double-click on HJTInstall.
  • Click on the Install button.
  • It will automatically place HJT in C:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe.
  • Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
    • Close HijackThis and rename it.
    • Go to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.exe
    • Right click on HijackThis.exe and select Rename.
    • Type in sniper.exe and press Enter.
    • Right-click on sniper.exe and select Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)
  • From the desktop open HiajckThis.
  • If using Windows Vista, be sure to Run As Administrator
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button
  • HijackThis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
  • Copy and then paste the log in your post.
    • Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
Even though we have renamed HijackThis to sniper, we will still refer to it as HijackThis or HJT.

Default Weird System Config Errors - Good Geek Challenge! X3

Open HJT and select Do a system scan only then place a check mark next to:

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,hvtjsqo. exe

Close all windows except for HJT then click Fix checked.

----------

Download ViewpointKiller
  • Unzip the program and all of the contents of ViewpointKiller.zip to a location such as your desktop.
  • Double click the ViewpointKiller icon to run ViewpointKiller.exe.
  • Select the File menu, and select Check to see if you have Viewpoint installed.
  • If ViewpointKiller indicates that any of the Viewpoint variants are installed, select the proper Kill option in the File menu.
  • Follow the prompts and instructions very carefully, answering Yes or No depending on which option you are most comfortable with.
  • The MsConfig instructions are very important, so be sure to read them carefully.
  • Note: When done with ViewpointKiller right click and delete all files that were unzipped.

----------

Please download Combofix by sUBs from one of the below links.
(Try all three if necessary)IMPORTANT - Combofix.exe MUST be saved to your your Desktop.
  • Close any open Web browsers. (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc)
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with Combofix. <-- IMPORTANT

Default Weird System Config Errors - Good Geek Challenge! X3

We have a partial success! Something I did worked. Not sure which one it was, but it's a start. I restarted after the ComboFix was done, and now all the other errors are gone, only now I'm getting this:

I've seen that before, but I don't remember how I fixed it.

Here's the log file from ComboFix:

ComboFix 08-01-23.1C - HP_Administrator 2008-01-25 22:50:00.1 - NTFSx86

Running from: C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Desktop\ComboFix.exe

Default Weird System Config Errors - Good Geek Challenge! X3

Did this happen soon after downloading the Winamp?

Please run a new HJT scan and post that log.

Default Weird System Config Errors - Good Geek Challenge! X3

I've had Winamp for a long time, before this started happening. I did have to re-install it awhile back, before the errors, but I can't recall how soon after the errors occurred.

Here's the HJT log:
