antivirus (norton) picked up a tracking cookie or something small like that but no viruses.
the problem lies with the ethernet connection which does not work, when taken back to where it was purchased the tech guys told my friend he had a "spiral" virus to go home phone a premium rate number and they would guid him through a system restore.

before i take the laptop back i wanted professional advice confirming there are no viruses on the computer.

IMHO there is a problem with the hardware.

Going to take it back this weekend and fingers crossed they will take it back as its under warrenty and fix the problem. Thanks for the help guys, ill let you know how i get on.
