I have a very fast computer and very fast internet but McAfee takes forever to scan. The computer still runs fast wen its scanning but the actual scan is so slow I dont understand why.

Thorough scans take a while. Maybe you can change the scan settings to reduce areas scanned if its that big a' problem? But I along with many I would not recommend that.

Also you can cut down on scan times by deleting temp files prior to runing the scan to prevent scanning unwanted junk. You can do this manually, or you can download and run an automated cleaning tool such as ccleaner or ATF cleaner

I rarely run a antivirus scan (not recommended) but when I do I go through sort of a ritual
![]() ATF Cleaner CleanUp!.exe Restart the computer. Since it's usually been a while I will defrag. You can use the built in Windows Defrag or a faster FREE program. Defraggler is very effective and easy to use. Be sure to clean out temp files and restart the computer just before using this. Restart the computer. Run antivirus. Restarting the computer, cleaning temp files and defragging will cut down on scan time. Maybe not by a whole lot but at least you know there aren't a bunch of junk files taking up time being scanned. Also if you have a music and/or movie folder that you know are clean you might want to exclude them from the scan. mp3 and movie files are usually pretty large and take up a lot of time. |
