Windows cannot find scvhost.exe

I scanned my computer with AVG Antispyware free edition and one of the results that came up as "High" alert was called scvhost.exe. I deleted that with all the other results it came up with.

Since then, whenever I reboot my pc it comes up with the message "Windows cannot find scvhost.exe" etc.

I searched this problem on the internet and most of the other people that had this problem have posted a "Hijack This" log, so I will 2.

Is there something in the log that can help you get rid the message whenever I turn on my pc?

Is it scvhost.exe or svchost.exe?

Why is there no antivirus on the computer?

Go to add/remove programs and uninstall OneStepSearch

Open HijackThis and select Do a system scan only then place a check mark next to:

Close all windows except for HijackThis and click Fix checked

Exit Hijackthis.

Download SDFix.exe and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:

Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.
Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard).
Finally add the contents of the Report.txt in your next post as an Attachment with a new HijackThis log

Follow this link and install one of the free antivirus programs listed. Make sure it is updated and running.

Do a full system scan and remove or quarantine everything found.

Let me know how the PC is now.

I have NOD32 and did a full system scan - came up with 0 infected objects.

Looks good.

Just a few more steps to secure the work you have done.

Let's clear out the programs we've been using to clean up your computer, they are not suitable for
general malware removal and could cause damage if launched accidentally.

Download OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer OTMoveIt2.exe and place it on your desktop.

1. Double click OTMoveIt2.exe to launch it.
2. Click on the CleanUp! button.
3. OTMoveIt2 will download a list from the Internet, if your firewall or other defensive programs alerts you, allow it access.
4. Click YES at the next prompt (list downloaded, Do you want to begin cleanup process?)

When finished exit out of OTMoveIt2

This is a good time to clear your infected system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
Select Create a restore point, and click Next.
Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
Select the More options tab
Next to System Restore click Clean up...

This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.
