2 questions, Please help, i have avg free, it found a trojan, its in the vault, do i remove it from the vault or just leave it there.

Also now i have a box come up when i boot up stating "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting, this copy of windows did not pass genuine windows validation"

The laptop is a Packard Bell Windows XP which i purchased new.

I am writing this on my other laptop which is a Toshiba running Vista.

First of all, i'll mention, do not follow any links that come up telling you to validate on that computer, if you bought the laptop new, if an OS on it, from a good retailer, it will be most likely be malware bringing up that error.

Follow those instructions, that way you and the malware team here can make sure the machine is virus free first.

Sorry folks, i am not that up now on computers having lived in the countryside of spain for 4 years.

All icons and screen are big, i cannot make them small.

The message comes on as soon as the computer is switched on and will not go anyfurther unless i click on the try later button on the validation box.

My AVG free download 8 version says all is ok.

So i suppose this is the time you will say take it to a pc doctor. Thanks for your help.

Do what it asks, the code it wants should be stuck to the side or back of you Packard Bell machine, look one of these.

Hi again, i tried that and they said it was the wrong product key number 15 digits and that they wanted money to install windows xp again.

Thingie 2 advised me not to follow the instructions but it was too late i had already done that.

Can you download anything?

Can you get any of the anti malware scans to run from this guide? http://www.computer-juice.com/forums...-posting-7476/

Agreed, I just wanted to see if it was a scam or not, I think that is confirmed and will now hand over to Evilfantasy the malware guy.
