I don't want to disable security alerts, I want it to work like it did. It was reporting the Avast, as a matter of fact, when I turned Avast off to run some scans and such when I rebooted and Avast started again, the Security center noted it was out of date (Avast updates several times a day).

Heck, I'm searching and searching and beating my head against a wall here. Why don't i uninstall Avast and then re-install it? LOL naw, THAT'S too easy............

Silly question maybe but have you tried right clicking IE and 'Run as Administrator'?

Then visit Windows Updates and try to install them.

Well it depends on what you mean by "normal" Steve lol. I would say it's as normal as this computer has been since I've had it in my possession, well even better since it's malware, limewire, and Norton free thanks to you, but it still gets that stupid 89972efd error message. SOMETHING is in the registry that shouldn't be there, the question is what and how did it change. I saw a thread similar at Bleeping Com. The guy there however is currently using Norton. A Norton rep was working with him htere. Given my past experiences with Norton and Vista it makes me wonder. I'm going to post thread over there, (I didn't realize they did anything but malware there lol) and another here in the software forum. The folks here, besides you and EF, who would know the hardware/software issues aren't likely to have looked at this one in the malware section.

EF: That's not a silly question given we ARE talking about a computer and Vista, they both do silly things at times and sometimes it's the simple things we over look that fix the problem. I just tried it though and it didn't work.

Thanks again for all the time you out into this sbj, looking at the logs and answering my questions. One last thing...........

i did the combo /u in the run box (I didn't know it took Fixit too, that was cool), is there anything special to do to get rid of OTList it and HJT other than normal add/install or deletefiles? Also, should I axe SAS? I already put Spybot and Winpatrol on for them, I don't want them to have too much to deal with. If you think I should leave it however, is there a way to keep that annoying SAS banner from popping up at boot?

Click the Preferences button.
  • Under Start-Up Options uncheck the following:
  • Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts
  • Show SUPERAntiSpyware icon in system tray
  • Show splash screen on startup

Hi Bubba

Regarding OTList it
Open the program and click on the cleanup button, this will remove the program then allow the PC to reboot when requested.

Regarding SAS
It is up to your personal choice whether you keep it installed, evilfantasy has kindly posted above info on how to stop the splash screen on boot up for you

Regarding HJT
Thus can be removed through standard add/remove programs

Not a problem, only too glad to lend a hand
