Zone Alarms messing with my computer :-(

Hiya, I wonder if anyone can help me.

For as long as I've had my laptops, I've used Zone alarms. I think the problems with zone alarms started when I last upgraded. My dad told me there was aparently a bug in that version or something, and warned me not to upgrade.....after I'd already done it!!!!
Now, about 7/10 times that I open up internet explorer, it says the page cannot be displayed. I click on the link to fix the problem, and sometimes it will immediately say there was no problem found, and the internet works as soon as I refresh the page, and other times nothing will help so I have to disable zone alarms. It's even worse with Mozilla because there is no option to 'fix the problem,' so I have to disable zone alarms right away, hence why I always use internet explorer. As soon as I disable ZA though, the internet works brilliantly with no problems.
Can anyone suggest anything to help me? Should I just get rid of ZA? If so, are there any other good antivirus/spyware softwares, that won't cost me too much? I HATE having to turn ZA off, because I feel unsafe, but it's either that or having no internet!

I also have problems downloading some software. For example, I cannot watch videos on many websites on interenet explorer including youtube. When I click on the link to get the software that I'm missing, it won't download.

I'd be sooo grateful if anyone knew what was going on!

Thanks

Laura

I have zonealarm running at present with no problems. Try setting your local network to trusted.
