Default Can't open OE6

For no obvious reason, outlook express (6) will not fully open. It starts with the blue Oulook Express 6 opening page but goes no further. Ctrl Alt Del produces Msimm not responding. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling and repairing but the result is still the same.

Default Can't open OE6

Thanks, guys, unfortunately I am running 98SE so don't have system or windows restore. One thing I noticed is that after uninstalling OE, the shortcut was still on the desktop so I clicked it and OE5 opened - could there be a conflict here? (if so, of course, why did it ever work?).

I will also investigate the "Elder Geek" help to see if it applies to 98SE.

It has mysteriously started working again (I haven't knowingly done anything to cause this) but unfortunately, in the process it has disappeared three weeks of received emails which I assume are now irretrievably gone. Could this have happened in the re-installation? I thought data was untouched by this process, only the application being re-installed?
