I am soon to be giving away my laptop because i've upgraded and wanted to make sure there was no way to retrieve any of my email messages. I use Gmail and have heard that since it is an internet based email, there shouldn't be any concern, but i'm still nervous about it.

Is there any way of recovering deleted Gmail messages?

If you really concern about someone else getting a hold on your e-mail or any other files, just do a low-level format and reinstall windows. For peace in mind do it twice. It might take a while but it will delete everything on the drive meaning that information on your drive will be unrecoverable.

i'd like to be able to leave a few programs on there, like all of my pictures and stuff because it's going to a family member.

i've just heard that when you delete email, it's not really gone forever. Just wanted a way to make sure family couldn't come along and "find" anything.

All the email is stored online with Gmail not your PC.

The only thing you need to watch is passwords, so empty them in your browser options if you save them and run a full CCleaner to remove anything else.

http://www.ccleaner.com/

download, install, options, settings, secure deletion, set to NSA (7 Rounds)

NSA (7 Rounds) mean that whatever you delete will be deleted and writen-over 7 times so even the Goverment cant tell what your internet history is or what videos you had on and now deleted Hehe

Well, i've already closed down that specific account anyway and from what i understand with gmail, once the account is closed, there is nothing you can do to retrieve it.

I didn't know you couldn't retrieve that email (yahoo, gmail) from your computer. I was always told there was always a way of getting it back. . . . .

So, if i clear my browser options (temporary files/cookies??) and run that CCleaner (what exactly does the CCleaner do again??), i should be ok.

thanks again for all the help.
