I can't drag the folders to my A:/ or D:/ drive to do this, and Windows' Files & Settings Transfer Wizard won't seem to do it either. And I can't find ordinary filenames for the emails, which I'm wondering may be at the root of the problem.
Any help would be much appreciated.

In Outlook Express's Settings you will find the location of its mail folder. Copy all the contents of that. Now go to the new computer and do the same and paste all the files you copied into that new location.

To transfer the address book, do a search for *.wab and find it, then copy that over the corresponding file on the new PC.

When you paste the files in, make sure OE is closed down!

The default location for mail folders is: "C:\Documents and settings\user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{a seemingly randomcode of letters and numbers?}\Microsoft\outlook express"

Please note to fine some of those files/folders you will need to view hidden files and folders, to do this do the following: "Open any folder(my documents, my computer etc, go to tools>folder options...>View>then the first set of radio buttons are headered 'Hidden files and folders' click 'show hidden files and folders'" This will show all hidden files and folders, when you are done with them, hide them again, they are hidden as they are important files and holders and shouldn't be messed with unless you know what you are doing.

Like Mike said, copy all those files into the same place on your new computer (using a USB stick, over the network, or burn onto a CD)

Actually, not the same place, but whatever the {a seemingly randomcode of letters and numbers?} has conjured up.

Dear Mike0001 and Thingie2,
Thank you for your replies to my post about transferring emails. I will try these solutions shortly and see how I get on.
(Is this what is called giving some rep? It's a new term to me).

Giving rep is adding a point to the person's "usefullness record" you add it by clicking the Icon looking like this: at the top of the post you want to add rep to.

Default How Can I Transfer Emails to My New Computer?

Mike0001/Thingie2,
I'm afraid after a promising start I failed with this. I ended up with a lot of what appeared to be code (lots of squares) in a Wordpad document, which I seemed to be able to paste into the new mail folder but when I later opened the folder it was empty.
Could I trouble you further for some basics please? I must be doing some simple thing wrong as the process seems fairly straightforward from your explanations. Mike, how should I get to Outlook Express's Settings, and can I do this on a folder-by-folder basis? Is copying it just a case of selecting and Ctl+C to the transfer media (in my case a diskette since that is all the old computer has - but I have broken down the emails to be transferred into files of <1.44Mb).
Thanks, I appreciate your patience!
