Hello,
I received several anonymous emails from a googlemail account. The emails were very offending and pestering. In addition, the person wrote untrue things about my work. I am distressed about these emails and would like to know where they are coming from. Unfortunately I can't find any IP address in the mail header. Is there any possibility to identify the owner of this googlemail account? I also thought about getting in contact with police but I am not sure whether they can (and will?) help me. Anybody any idea what I can do to stop this? |

Ignore them, nothing else you can do.

No. I wouldn't really worry about it.
Just block the person from your inbox, and delete all the messages. Or go and spam him back... (Never really worth the effort)

There is no sender IP address to be found in mail actually sent from gmail. Not that I can interpret anyway.
Google will not help you. https://gmail.google.com/support/bin...34&topic=12786 Obviously if the content is illegal as well as distressing the police will help. Merely distressing won't cut it. My System: Tim

Hello,
Thank you for your answers. What worries me is that this person attacks my reputation. He/she claims one of my clients got seriously injured due to my fault. This isn't true at all and I am worried that he/she spreads these rumours elsewhere and will damage my reputation. Therefore I would really like to know who this person is. Is there really no chance to identify the owner of the account? Thanks for your help. |

From experience if they are emailing you they are probably full of crap.
There are people that do and people that talk a good do. In 3 years I have had 1 or 2 upset customers that call and complain, makes threats etc but never follow them through. Block them and move on. |

Your solicitor can get a court order to Google who will then respond (to the court) with the name and address of the sender in order that you can sue him for defamation.
It will cost you an arm and a leg and to succeed in court you'll need to prove that he passed the allegation to a third party, not just to you, and that it was a serious enough allegation to have affected you financially, and that it wasn't true. The burden is on you to demonstrate each of those points. |

Hello,
thank you for your answers. Well, I don't think he/she entered his/her correct name and address when opening the googlemail account. And if it is not possible to get the IP address I will probably not be able to identify this person :-( It's a pity. Well, I will block the emails and hope he will stop with this. Thanks for your help. |
