I installed the newest version of AIM and apparently it does not work properly with Vista, and it's screwed with my networking/internet options. The tray icon in the bottom right is permanently "disabled", meaning that there are the two monitors there to symbolize my netowrk connection, but there is always a red X through them. When I hover over it, it says, "connect status: unknown, server execution failed". when I right click on it, it will open up the normal menu with the "connect to network, diagnose and repair, etc." options but when you cilck on any of them, it pops up a blank window and it takes several minutes before all the information shows up inside this box.
and this problem isn ot consistent. usually it will connect no problem to a wireless or wired network, but if for some reason you have to go in there and change something, it either wont work, when you right click nothing happens, when you click on an option it only brings up a blank window that will load in a few minutes, and other weird problems. also, at times the windows vista start button in the bottom left sometimes becomes "distorted", with rough edges, and is not clickable. at this time you have to press the start button a couple times, and it opens up, usually, on the 2nd time. i cant system restore to a point before i installed aim, its been too long, and uninstalling aim does not help. ive tried reinstalling the drivers for my networking hardware on the notebook, but nothing is working. and for the record my o/s is windows vista home premium 32-bit. is anyone familiar with this problem, and know of anything i can try short of system restoring back to the factory condition? |
