Okay, so I have outlook 2007 (and the rest of the suite) installed on my pc and laptop, both running Win XP SP3 with avast! and spyware terminator. I've put hotmail/live mail connector onto both machine, even followed the online instructions! On my laptop, it added my account (@hotmail.co.uk) and it set itself up and downloaded all my email and calenders flawlessly. Just tried it on my PC, and it comes up saying 'Outlook Connector is available only to subscribers. Do you want to subscribe now?' with the opitions yes or no, both of which do nothing when clicked.
am i missing something here? Im dam sure i didnt exactly the same thing on both machines.... MCTW EDIT: forgot to point out, after this error it simply will not sync to hotmail at all, email does not work. just comes up with the error when send/receive is pressed..... |

I seem to forever have errors with Hotmail now, that's why I have stopped using them for mainline stuff. There servers just seem to have pants reliability.

And if I forget my password, I can reset it, without loosing all my emails. I hope to soon get a little more organised and offer some mail hosting for a few people, on their own domain or whatever. Might as well make use of my servers lol.

Also, the other benefit in doing it this way, is you can create any number of aliases that point to the same email inbox, like somebody2@yourdomain.com and use that to sign up for stuff, and then if you decide you don't need those emails anymore, just delete that alias, and you won't get any spam. Thats what I do now and it works a treat. Disposible email addresses. The other option is Google Mail, they seem pretty reliable, and the interface is good but is an aquired taste. It used to be that ISP provided mail was the best, but I'd argue it is probably the worst now, and the fact that you loose all your email when you change ISP just compounds this fact. And apparently webmail is the way to go, supposedly software clients will be gone soon, everything on web apps. I guess it makes sense really

ill look into getting a domain like you said i think.
and i agree, my ISP is virgin, and their mail system is abysmal. 10mb of storage space for starters, as well as probably one of the worst designed interfaces! and to think were paying for that! thanks for the advice, i shall look into this further now. |
