hey i just installed it does anyone know how to keep the program running when i exit and why it isnt showing in the notification area as running?

If you exit it you exit it. There is an extension for Windows only to minimize to the tray.

Tools then Add-ons then Get extensions.
(Note the Install button in Add-ons as you will need it later.) On the mozilla page, type minimizetotray into the search box. Then Search. Click on MinimizeToTray and follow instructions carefully! Restart. Now Tools then add-ons and select Options on MinimizeToTray. |
