Default Orange fsmail.net email outlook settings

Good Evening,

I've just tried to use Outlook for my email instead of orange's webmail. Unfortunately it's constantly asking me for a password, i've seen a previous thread with the same problem but the issue hasn't been resolved on mine.

Btw even though i get my email through the orange site currently, the email address is myusername@fsmail.net (freeserve mail) , wonder if this will have any bearing on any conclusions people come to.

Thank you
Chris Leech

You may require a different password for incoming (POP) and outgoing (SMTP) so you need to set up Outlook accordingly. The POP password is your fsmail password. For outgoing, you need to use the SMTP server that your ISP provides. For mine that would be mail.btinternet.com with my BT mail password.

Hi Mike, thanks for your reply.

I might have to ring orange then as the home account is set up in my parents name, and they have their own orange user account and password linked to the home address.

I don't, i'm just using webmail with a username and password, probably have to ring them i think!!!

Many Thanks

Your password for POP will be the one you use for webmail.

How are you accessing the internet where you are? That governs how you get access to SMTP. Generally an ISP only allows access to its SMTP server if you are using its broadband.

Thanks Mike, I've tried that and it keeps bringing up the username and password box.

We have a desktop which has the Orange Broadband Modem set up on it which connects to the internet, and then i share that connection once active with a network cable which connects to my laptop.

Thanks
Chris

If your Orange Broadband includes email then there should be no problem using their smtp server.

Clarification: does it request a password when sending, receiving, or both?

Also, have you told Outlook to remember the passwords?

There is a solution that you may or may not like! That is to auto-forward your fsmail to a free googlemail account. You can then easily set up Thunderbird to access the googlemail account.

Just had another thought. Have you enabled the POP and SMTP ports on the firewall on the desktop?

`Possibly not enabled the ports mike, i have a firewall on my laptop but i haven't custom configured it.

The username and password request box comes up when i've set up my new account and just leave outlook running, i can imagine it's trying to get the emails from the orange account but keeps coming up with the pw request box and doesn't load any emails or allow me to use Outlook

Thanks
Chris

Yes, it looks like it is trying to pop emails and has an incorrect username and/or password.

Is there a special form the username has to take? I guess Orange have to encode the fact that this is a Freeserve account.
