Hello
New to this so forgive me if I don't get this right!!

Infected yesterday by a virus/trojan "avtmskii.dll" which I think i have cleared with Avast, CCleaner, Spybot and Ad Aware, but today I cannot access any of my addresses in Outlook Express. Its just like a new address book - empty!!!, though the mails are all there as before.
Is there any way of finding them please? Would a system restore bring them back?
Would be grateful for any help, thank you

You could go through your old emails and retrieve some of them like that!
And yes I think a system restore would fix it seeing as Outlook addresses are stored on your comp, but that may also bring back the virus so be wary

A system restore is very likely to bring the virus back so be careful with that.

OK I am really beginning to panic, none of the system restore points worked, tried several but same message each time. The restore box is not ticked so I know there should be a least a daily one available. I'm running Wondows XP with SP2, any suggestions?

Unless you have a back-up or you are mistakenly logged in under a wrong outlook profile I would say they are gone for good.

HI
Its in french so won't mean much, but basically its saying that the restore function did not work, that the system changes were not taken into account and to try another date.
I've done it 3 times with the same message each time. It seems to have made the restoration points each day though. Its rather worrying, as although this address book problem is minor and I have started getting the address back from old mails, what would happen if I were really in trouble?

Anything could happen, there are no guarantees or safe zones in 'PC Land'. ;)

In future make proper back-ups.
