Yes thank you !
It was Norton.......if you tell it not to scan outbound mail then the mail just whistles through and its off to wherever. If you telll it to scan outbound emails but remove the 'time out protection ' so that it doeasnt 'time out', it still appears to go through ok. Thanks for all your help. Yes I have got Norton 2007. Getting a bit disillusioned with this......the 2005 edition was fair less restrictive; Vista is bad enough as it is without haveing NIS 2007 like some old aunt telling you what you can and cant do all the time !!!! You can tell I'm hen pecked !

IMO Norton is not worth having installed, let alone paying for...
There is plenty of free software that will do a much better job and use much less resources doing so... I can't really see any point in having the outbound scanning turned on anyway..... unless you are sending viruses.

Groan !!!!
Seems to be back again with a vengeance, whether I disable Norton's outbound email scanning or not, I get the following error, whenever sending emails via Windows Mail (which is configured to my Yahoo email addy) : Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'Re: 267394', Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F Are there any adjustments that can be made within Windows Mail ? One thing I also notice that whilst the sent email remains in the outbox it seems to 'foul' up the receiving of email too.

I guess what is happening is that Norton is taking forever to scan the mail and the Yahoo server can't be bothered to wait so it closes the connection.
I don't think there is any adjustements that can be made in Live Mail. But you should be able to disable Norton Email Scanning... You could try tempoarily disabling Norton and trying. Or just uninstall it fully and then install a free alternative that is loads better than Norton. Something like AVG

I have used AVG on my other PC. When you disable NIS 2007 (Naughty Interfering Softrware !) I just go tot he control panel and uninstall the exe file thats there ? Shall go and inquire about the cost of AVG though I have heard you can get it free ?? (firewall/antivirus etc.)

You need to run the Norton Removal Tool as otherwise it likes to leave loads of junk behind.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...nsf&view=docid AVG is available in a free version and it is very good. Download link http://free.grisoft.com/doc/special-offer-aff/us/frt/0 You will also want to get a firewall as AVG doesn't include one like Norton did. Some good free firewalls are:I suggest you use ZoneAlarm A tutorial on understanding and using firewalls may be found here.

Admittedly I didnt read our post in time !! Deleted Norton from control panel......good bye and farewell ! Do I still have to use the Norton removal programme ? I finally installed AVG and Commodo firewall pro.........and Windows Mail still blocks outgoing email ! However it does eventually send out the email if you close then reopen WM. Could it be just the connection to the server or a bug in the software ? Admit it has only started doing it so wonder if one of Microsofts many wonderful windows updates is being a bit too security conscious ?

You should still run the Norton Removal Tool. Norton is notorious for leaving behind running services.

i have semi-resolved the issue by just changing the default email account on Windows mail. It was yahoo that was the efault email account and email was being blocked whenever you sent it. As I have configured my googlemail account, I have now set that as the default email address ! I know it means using a different email address but hey atleast I can send email using WM.
