    Stubborn email problems---Help, Help!

Email problems began 30 days ago very suddenly on both my Yahoo and Msn (Hotmail) emails. The operating strip on my emails containing fonts, color, Bold, Italics, indents, spell check, etc. has disappeared. Also, no copies of past emails are attached when i reply or forward emails; No automatic signature, etc. Also, there is a very loud noise when I click on things with my mouse---or whenever an incoming email is announced. Also, have trouble getting into my Hotmail email. I have tried numerous anti virus programs to clean system, i.e. Hijack this with no success. When I contacted my ISP Yahoo, got senior Techy who got into my computer and saw no problems on his screen. Says problem is with my computer. Have Windows XP. Need your help FAST!

    HERE IS HIJACKTHIS LOG.

    Update your Java.

I don't think it is malware so I am moving this post to the Email forum.

    Stubborn email problems---Help, Help!

Thanks, Evil F---Which antivirus program would you suggest I uninstall? Per your suggestion I removed the Hijackthis line and updated Java to Java(TM) 6 Update 5 and deleted 2other old Java entries. (No apparent change can be seen.)Even though I am far from being a pro in this computer world, I still feel that something has gotten hold of my Internet Explorer to bring about all these email problems---and the loud speaker sounds. Now, when I try to open my LinkedIn link I get an error notice from IE saying: "Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http:/www.linkedIn.com/. Operation aborted" If I could I would like to uninstall and install the IE---but I don't know how, or what the consequences would be. IE is not on the Control Panel AQdd/Remove programs. IE seems to have come installed with my computer. I can't even find out what IE upgrade is operating on my computer, etc.

Your ideas and help are greatly appreciated.

    Stubborn email problems---Help, Help!

I suggest either Avaast or AVG for an antivirus.

    Repair IE6

    Note:
Both methods listed require that the Microsoft Windows XP CD-ROM be available.

Method 1: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

From the Start menu, select Run.
In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)
    Select the OK button.
Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.

Method 2: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

From the Start menu, select Search, select All Files and Folders.
Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside Search Hidden Files and Folders option.
Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.
In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf
In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: or the letter of the hard drive that contains the Windows folder.
    Click the Search button.
In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.
Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.

    Stubborn email problems---Help, Help!

    Thanks, E.F.

Several of my email problems involve IE. I know I am unable to get fonts and color strip on emails because something doesn't recognize that I apparently have IE 6 installed. Same with not being able to get into LinkedIn.com. When I bring Help tab down on IE it shows I have IE 6 with SP2. What's going on here!? So, I figure if we install IE 7 and remove IE6 we may solve the whole problem. Sounds like you agree---and I'm glad. We have one problem. I can't find my Windows XP CD-Rom . Must I have it---use it---if all I want to do is uninstall IE 6 and install IE 7? I hope not. Let me know---and thanks again for your help!

    Stubborn email problems---Help, Help!

I am not sure how to uninstall IE6 but there is a download for it Download Internet Explorer 6

You may want to make a post in the Windows operating systems forum to see if someone has more experience with that then I do.

We can try a few more things first. Running both of these won't do any harm.

Please download Dial-a-Fix by djlizard, save it to the desktop then extract it to it's own folder.
    • Open the folder and run Dial-a-fix.exe
    • 2 windows will open. Close the one in the background labled Restrictive Policies
    • On the main window, check the box in section 4, labled SSL/HTTPS/Cryptography. The 4 boxes under it should be pre-checked
    • Check all boxes in Section 5, labled Registration Center.
    • Click Go
    • OK any error messages if received, but write them down and post them here.
    • Restart the computer when done
    ----------

    1. Download IEFix.zip and run it.
    2. Click the Apply button.
    3. You'll be prompted for the Operating System CD or the Service Pack Files location.
    4. Once finished Restart Windows.

If you don't have the Windows installation CD, and if the installation source files are not present in the hard disk, you may click Cancel when you see a dialog similar to the one below. IEFix will continue with DLL registration part.

Let me know if those help any.
