Default windows live ID and msn

My hubby and I share our hotmail e mail address at the moment. I would like to sign him up for his own account cos he can never remember our e mail address so i want one with his name so he can remember it and its about time we had our own. I jst tried signing him up filled ut the registaton form and when i tried to sign him in by clicking on msn icon i get msg that its not recognised.

What is difference between windows live ID and msn? are they the same thing just a new name? When i look into signing into windowns live ID the option is ______@co.uk
shouldnt it be ____@hotmail.com as with our shared e-mail address?
Pease help this is the nth time i have tried and left it cos i cant wrk out the difference or what i am doing wrong.
