I need some avi files to work on a Mac so they can be edited in iMovie. I've tried getting Divx codecs, and I also tried Macvcdx. I hear Vlc player will play them but I need the files to work in iMovie, so how would I get it to work?

You need the quicktime plugin that supports AVI files. For a file to work in iMovie it has to be supported by Quicktime. Go to Apple.com and look for quicktime pluggins. You may need Quicktime Pro for the support but I am not sure.

iMovie can only handle DV Video, sorry I can't be of greater help without more info - if you've installed the appropriate codec for the video iMovie should just convert it when you try to import it - it may take quite a while though.Try out ffmpegx from teh link below - it can convert many different video formats and shoudl be able to change what you have to DV format. homepage.mac.com
