I'm trying to burn dvd's onto blank Memorex DvD-R. Every time i insert the blank DVD the computer becomes really slow and the drive makes noise. I open Nero 6 and click the burn button (after i told it the video's i wanted) and it says Drive not ready, or no disc. I go into My Computer and open the drive and it says there is no disc.

My computer wouldn't play DVD's either. I downloaded AVS DVD Player not too long ago so i could play dvd's. I can watch DVDs but i cant burn anything. I have burned a DVD before with other Blank DVDs but ive wiped my comp sinse then so i dont know what is wrong.

Go to Device Manager/IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, expand the selection and right click the channel where the drive is located and select Properties/Advanced and check that your DMA settings have not reverted to PIO Mode.

im afraid i do not know where this device manager is. I looked in the start menu and contorl panel but i didnt find anything about a device manager. I did look into System Information and found a category labeled DMA with two channels: Channel 2 (Standard Floppy disk Controller) and Channel 4 (Direct Memory Access Controller). I could not click on them, It just displayed the channel, name and status of "OK"

Left click on Properties

System Properties box will open

Left click on Hardware

Left click on Device Manager

the settings say it is still in DMA

Did you check both channels ?

Hmmmm ...... it seems as though only your HDD is getting picked up.
Does the drive show up in Device Manager/CD-DVD Drives ? ... if so try uninstalling it, then reboot the PC and check again.
