OK .... for the moment, let's forget what the manufacturer said and concentrate on what is happening now.

When you see Dives C: and D: in My Computer .... are they listed under Hard Disks ? or Drives with Removable Storage ?

OK, so it looks like your Hard Drive is partioned in 2 x parts .... Drive C: and Drive D:

Your CD Drive is missing, so let's take it from there ok.

If your drive is not showing in Windows, then there is either something physically wrong with the drive ... i.e. it is dead or faulty, or your Windows installation is corrupt somewhere.

When you dealt with the manufacturers helpline, did they get you to reinstall Windows from the Recovery disk(s) ?

Well given that the drive will not install and you are getting the message :

"HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T10N ATA Device Failed"

I think you have to accept one of 2 x possible outcomes :

1. The drive is dead

or

2. Your Windows installation is corrupt

You seem reluctant to accept the drive is faulty, so in my opinion, the only other thing you can try is a reinstall of Windows. As you have the Recovery disks this shouldn't be a problem, but you will obviously lose any files/data you have, unless you copy them to a USB Flash drive or similar.

You're welcome, but for what it's worth .... I reckon the drive has gone bad on you and will need replacing, but if you can reinstall Windows with it and it cures the problem (let's hope so), I will be proved wrong
