Default Converting .avi files my comp shuts off!!

When ever i try to convert my .avi files to dvd, mp4 or any other format using imtoo converter or other converters my computer shuts off. The program usually goes for about 5 mins then shuts off my comp. It happens with all the converter programs i have. Please help. I want to at least be able to burn my avi files to dvd. Thanks.

Doing stuff like this is normally CPU intensive.

I'd open the case and clean out the fans, it's probably overheating mate.
